Ford announced a month ago that it would develop a specially adapted 2018 Ford Mustang GT with drifter Vaughn Gittin Jr. at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. Although the company only released one teaser image at the time, it has finally released full photos and details. The car has a fighter plane from the Second World War and contains a 700 horsepower supercharged V8.
The WW II aircraft in question is not a P51 Mustang, but rather an Eagle Squadron Spitfire used by the Royal Air Force. There are a few reasons why this aircraft was chosen as the basis for the car. First, it will be auctioned for the benefit of the Experimental Aircraft Association, so an aircraft theme is logical. This year also marks the 100th anniversary of the Royal Air Force. Finally, since the car is American, it was logical to choose the Eagle Squadron plane, since Eagle Squadron had American voluntary pilots.
Aside from the hunter plane paint schedule, the Mustang has a carbon fiber wide bodykit, custom grille and lighting, and wheels from Gittin Jr.'s RTR company. Inside, the seats are covered with brown leather and black suede upholstery. The backrests also have the insignia of the Eagle Squadron. Particularly cool details are a special aluminum badge made from the metal of a real Spitfire and the metal top of the gearshift came from a piece of an F-35 Lightning.
This custom Mustang will also deliver impressive performance. It has the aforementioned supercharger from the Ford Performance catalog that collides the 5.0-liter V8 to 700 horsepower and 610 pound-foot torque. It is linked to a six-speed manual transmission and an improved rear. The suspension consists of Ford & # 39; s MagneRide shock absorbers, Ford Performance lowering springs and RTR stabilizer bars.
The car is on Goodwood this week, where Gittin Jr. the hillclimb course will run. Then it will be auctioned at the fundraiser event of the Experimental Aircraft Association in Wisconsin on 26 July. The winning bidder does not only get the car. The winner will also receive a fully paid trip to the Woodward Dream Cruise in August.
