Shelby American showed its 2021 Shelby F-150 on Thursday, using this year’s redesign of the Ford F-150 with some new hardware and a little more power from the available supercharger.
The 2021 Shelby F-150 doesn’t really differ much from last year’s models on paper. Aside from the upgrades Ford has baked into its 2021 redesign, the Shelby model gets a slight boost in power — up to 775 horses (at 93 octane) from the 2020 Shelby F-150 and Super Snake’s “just” 770 — along with a revised suspension and all the other goodies you’ve come to expect from a Shelby custom.
“With the growing demand for our muscle trucks worldwide, over the past year we have carefully improved and engineered our Shelby off-road version of the tough new Ford F-150,” said Shelby American Vice President of Operations Vince LaViolette in the announcement. “The sophistication that has gone into it is unprecedented in our history. Building on the advances Ford designed in the F-150, we’ve created the most capable, enjoyable and advanced off-road truck to carry the Shelby nameplate.”
Without the supercharger, you’ll only get 395 horsepower from the 5.0-liter V8, but you’ll still benefit from off-road suspension similar to Ford’s own F-150 Raptor (including internal bypass Fox shocks) and an interior package with two-tone Shelby seat leather and branded floor mats. Outside, it gets a unique body kit and ram-air style hood.
Shelby American plans to build only a relatively small number of F-150s for 2021, and you could be one of the lucky ones if you’re willing to part with a cool $107,080 for the optional fan, which will bump you up to $114,980. Do not worry; that includes the price of the F-150 Lariat 4×4 model it is based on. Yes, it is still expensive.
