The 2020 Porsche Taycan is getting an update that will improve its performance, add features and improve the function of features already baked into the car. And yes, we mean the 2020 model year – Porsche will start upgrading and improving its cars after purchase.
Improved gear is the most intriguing item on the list of upgrades. Porsche says it has optimized the skid control software, resulting in a drop of 0.2 seconds to the 0-to-124 mph time for the Turbo S. The car’s new official time is 9.6 seconds. For now, Porsche’s press release only speaks that this is an improvement for the Turbo S, so other Taycans remain the same. Software optimizations for control units such as the transmission and other drive components should also be updated. For this reason, Porsche is demanding that people bring their vehicle to their dealership to have the update installed.
Every 2020 Taycan owner who has opted for adaptive air suspension will also receive an upgrade to Porsche’s ‘Smartlift’ function. This allows you to program and tell the car to automatically raise its ride height in recurring locations, such as your driveway or nearby speed bumps.
Predictably, there are also a number of software updates to improve the user experience overall. First, the charging planner has been updated with more functionality. While you are charging, you can now tell the car how much charge you want in the battery at your destination. This alerts you to unplug the power cord once that level is reached, so you can hit the road without over or under charging. You can also reduce the desired charging speed from 270 kW to 200 kW to save the battery by squeezing less heat into it.
The latest major update concerns additional functionality to the infotainment system and navigation. More information is now displayed in the navigation system, including ‘online information’ and ‘traffic information with precision at lane level’. You can also connect your Apple ID to the Taycan and stream both Apple Podcasts and Apple Music using the “Lyrics” feature. Finally, Porsche says the car now supports wireless Apple CarPlay.
