Porsche is developing a system to compose unique music for your drive

Modern cars have done a lot to provide customized experiences for just about every driving scenario, from ambient lighting to suspension settings. Audio has also been incorporated to some extent with better stereos and variable exhaust systems, but Porsche goes a step further. It’s working on something called the Soundtrack My Life Project and letting the car compose unique music that responds to your driving style.

To be clear, this isn’t just the car that selects certain songs from your playlists or streaming services to suit relaxed or enthusiastic driving. Instead, Porsche has libraries of original music clips that are combined and arranged by an algorithm to suit your driving style. You pick the style, be it electronic, piano, or any other genre, and it starts to put things together. Come to a stop, and the music slows down and becomes less crowded; start driving vigorously, and it transitions into more uptempo stuff with more instruments and layers.

It is currently in prototype form and it only works with Porsche’s own original music. So you cannot use samples from your own music library, nor can you upload your own original pieces of music. And because it’s a prototype, it’s not available yet. But during a presentation from Porsche, someone working on the project said it could be available as early as next year. That is of course subject to change. We are certainly curious to try it out. It can be quite fun, kind of like the dynamic soundtracks you find in video games that help improve gameplay. On the other hand, we saw the novelty wear off quickly, with people returning to listening to traditional music instead.
