We may see the production-ready BMW XM on September 27

The brash BMW XM is expected to celebrate its global debut this month, becoming one of the automaker’s most outlandish vehicles.

The powerful SUV was previewed in production form last year and recently leaked patent images have revealed that the production model will look very similar. While the company hasn’t announced a launch date yet, BMW blog says it will be unveiled on September 27.

At the front of the production-ready BMW XM are a pair of massive kidney grilles and a series of intriguing split headlights. An angular front bumper is also visible, while the black body trim also catches the eye. Like the concept, the production model will feature quadruple stacked exhaust tips and slightly simpler and more conventional LED taillights.

Now it’s not just the look that sets the XM apart from other BMW models. The automaker has confirmed that it will have a newly developed V8 with an electric motor that delivers a combined torque of 644 horsepower and 590 lb-ft (800 Nm). Those looking for even more power will be able to pick up a flagship model with 738 horsepower and 737 lb-ft (1,000 Nm) at a later date.

While performance figures won’t be released until the SUV’s unveiling, we know it will feature an advanced version of BMW’s xDrive all-wheel drive system and an electronically controlled differential lock on the rear axle. It will also have the ability to travel about 50 miles (80 km) on electricity alone under the WLTP cycle and about 30 miles (48 km) under EPA testing.

BMW has also equipped the SUV with Adaptive M Professional suspension with a 48-volt electromechanical roll stabilization system and Active Roll Comfort function, developed to reduce body roll when cornering and on uneven surfaces.

Production of the BMW XM is expected to begin in December 2022 at the automaker’s Spartanburg plant in the US.
