The 2023 Nissan Z has not been in customer hands for long and AMS Performance has already developed an ECU tune for the sports car.
For those who don’t know, AMS Performance is a respected tuner headquartered in West Chicago, best known for building and tuning the world’s fastest GT-Rs. Apparently they know a thing or two about fast Nissans and have wasted no time on their magic on the 2023 Z.
The Z is powered by the same 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 ‘VR30’ engine that powers a number of Infiniti models. AMS Performance was already well acquainted with the VR30 before the 2023 Z was launched and had developed Infiniti melodies for it together with EcuTek. This gave it a flying start to give the Z more horsepower and torque.

Nissan’s official claim is that the new Z is good for 400 horsepower at 6,400 rpm and 350 lb-ft (474 Nm) of torque from 1,600 to 5,600 rpm, but these are clearly numbers on the pendulum, not the wheels. When strapped to his dyno, an AMS Performance tuned Z delivered 452 hp and 709 Nm of torque through the wheels. Those are serious gains with a simple tune.
To put those numbers in perspective, it’s worth checking out YouTuber savagegeese’s video below. In doing so, he tied a standard 2023 Z to the AMS Performance dyno, where it delivered 372 hp and 362 lb-ft (491 Nm) of torque through the rear wheels. So not only did the tune add 80 horsepower to the wheels, but it also added a massive 161 lb-ft (218 Nm) of torque.
The car tested on the dyno also featured an aftermarket exhaust and high-octane racing fuel. The tuner notes that these numbers are a work in progress and will likely change as work on the platform continues.
