Stellantis has announced a comprehensive plan for the company through 2030, covering everything from product to financial information. The product plans are what caught our attention, especially for the surprise reveal of the first electric Jeep, as well as new teasers of the electric Ram 1500. But the company also gave more general details about what we’ll see in the future including both electric cars as well as vehicles with hydrogen fuel cells.
All plans serve Stellaantis’ goal of achieving net zero CO2 emissions by 2038. That way, it plans that all European car sales and half of all US sales will be electric by 2030. It will launch 75 new electric vehicles by that year, and at least 25 of them will come to the US.
The first of those electric cars will be the aforementioned Jeep in 2023, but many Stellantis models will follow closely. The electric Ram ProMaster will also be launched in 2023. In 2024, we’ll see the electric Ram (and its plug-in hybrid counterpart), two more Jeeps (an off-road model and a family-oriented model), and the Dodge electric muscle car. This year we get a taste of the Dodge with a concept. Chrysler will launch its electric car in 2025, likely based on the Airflow concept. Stellantis has previously announced that Chrysler will be fully electric by 2028 and further announced that Alfa Romeo and Maserati will be fully electric by 2030.
Stellantis is also working on hydrogen fuel cell vehicles, mainly for commercial use. For the US, it plans to offer a large hydrogen-powered ProMaster bus by 2025. That year or a little later, it also has plans for a hydrogen heavy-duty pickup, believed to be Ram 2500 and 3500. Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares noted that one of the benefits of hydrogen for large and commercial vehicles is that it doesn’t increase payload. jeopardized as hydrogen powertrains are lighter than giant batteries. Hydrogen fill times are also fast compared to charging.
The company continues to work on and offer advanced driver aids. This year it will offer hands-free cruise control like GM’s Super Cruise and Ford’s BlueCruise. In 2024, the company plans to introduce a system that will be hands-free and will not require the driver to look at the system all the time. The technology is being developed together with BMW.
