The seven-figure super sports car trend doesn’t seem to lose any momentum as Shelby American and Classic Recreations join the fun. Their special machine will have the carbon fiber bodywork you see above, and will be called the 1965 Shelby Diamond Edition Cobra Race Car. It starts at $1.2 million for a finished car, but it has some pretty wild features and exclusivity to support its high price tag.
The star is the carbon fiber body made by Brothers’ Composite. Not only is it beautiful, but it is extremely light at just 88 pounds for all body parts combined. That bodywork is attached to a Classic Recreations-designed custom chassis with independent suspension and Wilwood six-piston brakes on all four corners. Under the hood is a 5.0-litre Coyote V8 that can be fitted with a VMP supercharger to boost power to over 800 horsepower. It is mated to a five-speed Tremec T56 transmission.
The car is completed with a custom leather interior, polished wood steering wheel and Carroll Shelby’s signature on the dashboard. The car will also feature a diamond-encrusted Shelby badge.
Only 10 of these Diamond Edition cars will be built. Each copy is given an official Shelby CSX serial number proving its authenticity. Also, the terminology of “Race Car” is correct as the car will not be street legal. Still, if you can afford this million dollar Cobra, you can probably afford to take it to a track.
