Recently, Porsche claimed to have significantly expanded the range of the Taycan Cross Turismo with a new software update. To put that claim to the test, Harry’s Garage took the car for a ride in its latest video, as well as giving it a bit of a mini-review.
This new update supposedly unlocks about 15 percent extra range, which equates to about 30-40 extra miles (48-64 km). On top of the Taycan 4S Cross Turismo’s original EPA range of 346 km, the updated model should be able to reach approximately 402 km. However, in Harry’s real-world tests with the car’s Range mode, that figure was more than 270 miles (435 km), which is a pretty big jump.
As another part of his testing, Harry also decided to take the Cross Turismo off the tarmac to see if its little off-road additions make it different from the stock Taycan. Putting it in gravel mode raises the ride height a bit and changes the traction control profile, but it won’t conquer Moab anytime soon.
Where the Cross Turismo really shined in Harry’s testing was its ability to find traction in seemingly impossible situations. As part of his mini off-road excursion, Harry took the car up a steep, slippery grassy knoll, and the car handled it effortlessly thanks to its clever traction control.
As far as driving impressions go, there’s nothing to say about the Taycan that hasn’t already been said. Of course, being an EV, it has ridiculous acceleration and a low center of gravity due to the heavy battery in the floor. Being a Porsche, it has the sharp steering and stellar dynamics we’ve come to expect from the German manufacturer.
