If you own a Porsche and are an adventurous spirit, a newly launched roof top tent from Porsche Tequipment could prove to be the perfect accessory.

The tent is designed for the 911, Macan, Cayenne, Panamera and Taycan and has two side windows and a skylight as standard. In its fully extended position, the tent floor measures 210cm x 130cm (82.6in x 51.5in) and is fitted with a high density polyfoam mattress.

As anyone who goes camping will tell you, the weather doesn’t always play a role when you want to go outside. For example, the Porsche roof tent has waterproof zippers and a separate rain cover at the entrance. An insect trap is also provided to provide protection against mosquitoes.

Porsche says the tent can be opened by simply opening the lockable security locks, lifting the trunk and holding it there with the two gas pressure shock absorbers. The foot area of the floor can then be folded up and stabilized with the telescopic ladder. The tent can then be set up with the four poles.

The hard case is available in Black/Light Gray or Black/Dark Gray, both accompanied by a matte black Porsche logo. A number of additional Porsche Tequipment accessories are in the works, including an inner tent, heated blanket and shoe and bag storage.

Although the roof tent works with the 911, it is not compatible with GT, Cabriolet and Targa variants. The rooftop tent also limits each model’s top speed to 130 km/h (81 mph).

As for the price, it’ll set shoppers a cool €4,980 ($4,989), which isn’t what we’d call cheap, but it’s no surprise considering it’s a Porsche-branded product. It’s also cheaper (and much more useful) than some expensive Porsche timepieces.
