Nissan’s famed RB26 engine going back into factory production

One of the most difficult challenges for old-timer enthusiasts is the limited availability of parts. But recently that has become a lesser problem for those who have restored past repeats of the legendary Nissan Skyline models.

Last year, Nissan scored favorably with enthusiasts after the Nismo performance department said that sharing some heritage models would reproduce. Now, to the delight of many Nissan enthusiasts, Nismo has just announced that it will further expand support for its heritage components by taking back its legendary RB26 inline six.

Yes, you read that right. If you haven't seen it the first time, Nissan recreates its RB26 engine. New ones. And from the factory.

Nissan & # 39; s RB26 is widely known as the rival of Toyota & # 39; s beloved and equally legendary 1JZ and 2JZ inline six – the distinctive engine of the original Supra generations. Both are from the golden age of the Japanese sports cars from the 80s and 90s of the last century.

Nissan & # 39; s RB26 is known for its placement in high-performance versions of the Skyline, the most famous in the Skyline GT-R. It became legendary because of its incredible durability and reliability. It is hugely appreciated by Japanese sports car enthusiasts, tuners, and motor sports enthusiasts, especially due to the ability to withstand significant power upgrades from bolt-ons without the need for major internal adjustments.

Like the 1JZ or 2JZ, it is not uncommon for RB26 & # 39; s to produce more than 1,000 horsepower from tuners hitting giant turbo & # 39; s, making them popular with people who want to work on making tires for roasting from towing machines or racers.

Initially, Nismo started its program by reproducing only small parts, such as auxiliary engine hoses, rubber body trims and various other chassis parts for the R32 generation Skyline GT-R. By the end of 2018 the program was expanded with the Skyline generations R33 (1993-98) and R34 (1998-2002).

With the latest expansion, Nismo supports the R32 generation Skyline from 1989 to 1994. But it's not just limited to reproducing integral RB26 parts, such as the actual short block and head. Nismo also reproduces the original engine belt and fuel pump. And for the body, new roof and three-quarter panels are also available.

Now these parts are only available through local dealers on the Japanese domestic market and other foreign markets. But because the R32 is eligible for import, because we have met the 25-year requirement, we have no doubt that the smartest Skyline enthusiast will find a way to get these parts into the country.

The new RB26 engine is listed for a manufacturer-recommended retail price of 170,000 Japanese yen in the catalog, while the cylinder head is at 187,000 yen. At the current exchange rates that are $ 1,535 and $ 1,698 respectively.
