The 720S Spider is the second vehicle from McLaren's Track 25 product plan.

McLaren Automotive has added a convertible to the 720S range.

The 720S Spider joins the 720S coupe in the McLaren Super Series. It is powered by the same 4.0-liter twin-turbo V-8 engine, which produces 710 horsepower and 568 pound-foot torque.

McLaren says the convertible can reach 60 km / h in 2.8 seconds and reach a peak of 212 km / h with the top up and 202 mph with the top down.

The highlight of the cabriolet is the retractable hard top, a one-piece carbon fiber panel, McLaren said. The folding mechanism is electric rather than hydraulic, said the automaker, and can be raised or lowered in 11 seconds. The roof can also be lowered or raised while the vehicle is traveling at speeds of up to 31 mph.

McLaren also has airbows built into the design of the cabriolet, one behind each seat, which ensures better visibility, according to the automaker.

Because of the hard top and tonneau system, the convertible weighs 108 pounds more than the coupé, according to McLaren.

The automaker said that the retractable hardtop has a "glazed" option with carbon fiber. McLaren said that with the option, the roof glass is "electrochromic and can quickly switch between a transparent or tinted state at the touch of a button."

When the ignition of the vehicle is turned off, the glass returns to a tinted position to keep the interior cool, according to McLaren.

The automaker adds two new colors for the cabriolet: Belize Blue and Aztec Gold.

As with the 720S coupé, the convertible is offered in three trims: standard, Performance and Luxury.

McLaren said that deliveries from his production center in Woking, England, will begin in March.

Prices start at $ 319,100, up from $ 297,100 for the coupe. Prices include shipping costs.

The 720S Spider is the second vehicle from McLaren's Track 25 product plan, which in 2025 requires 18 launches of new models or derivatives for an investment of $ 2.1 billion. The Track 25 plan replaced Track 22, which requested 15 models or derivatives.
