Modified Porsche 911 GT2 RS retakes Nurburgring lap record

In recent years, the lap times on the Nürburgring-Nordschleife have declined with increasing regularity. A little more than a year ago, a new Porsche 911 GT2 RS introduced a 6: 47.25, taking the crown out of the hands of the Lamborghini Huracán LP 640-4 Performante. This summer the Italians stormed the Ring and claimed the record when the Aventador SVJ had set a time of 6: 44.97. Today, Porsche has announced that the GT2 RS has resumed the legal car card record – with considerable reservations – with a new time of 6: 40.3. Let's see how long this new number is.

We say road-legal because this specific GT2 RS was not in stock. The car was modified and "set up for the" Nordschleife "by Porsche engineers and Manthey-Racing experts." Manthey-Racing fields a pair of Porsche 911 RSRs in the World Endurance Championship. The company makes aftermarket parts (but also roadlegal) for Porsches. Some of those parts are in this car and help to shave almost 7 seconds of last year's lap time.

It is unclear what those adjustments exactly mean, because in the Porsche press release it is only stated that "the intended adjustments include the areas chassis and aerodynamics." The technicians focused on suitability for use on the road at all times. "Probable upgrades include suspension and aero, although we will have to wait to hear from Manthey-Racing.

All modifications are legal in Europe and available to the public via Manthey-Racing, although it is unlikely that the parts here are easy to find in the US Customers can order fully prepared cars called the GT2 RS MR. Like the previous GT2 RS, this car was also equipped with a race-seat seat, although Porsche says there was no weight saving.

The round itself was organized by both Porsche and Manthey-Racing and was put on October 25 by Lars Kern. Porsche of course has the overall lap record with a 6: 11.13, adjusted by the 919 Hybrid Evo.
