Mercedes-AMG introduces E-Performance brand, teases hybrid GT 4-Door variant

Mercedes-AMG and the Mercedes-AMG Formula 1 team will work together even more closely in the coming years. Today’s announcement of more collaboration and technology sharing between the two gives rise to a new branding: E Performance. It is used on the new F1 car and will also be used on future hybrid road cars.

AMG is teasing one of those street cars today. It’s the rumored, hybridized AMG GT 4-Door, and its full name will likely be along the lines of AMG GT 4-Door E Performance. You can see a few photos of it above, alone and alongside the AMG Project One and Mercedes’ new F1 car.

The new GT 4-Door variant is very similar to the 63 S, but there are a few differences we will notice. It’s subtle, but the passageways in the front bumper’s side intakes are vertical instead of horizontal. The “V8 BITURBO” badge is also underlined by the “E PERFORMANCE” badge to indicate that it is the high-performance hybrid. There are no pictures of the rear or the other side of the vehicle, but we have to imagine that there is a new number on the back. Our best estimate is 73, to go up a notch from 63. A 2019 report stated that this model had more than 805 horsepower from the engine and electric motor combined. That is well above the 630 hp of the 63 S, which sprints to 100 km / h in just 3.1 seconds. Electrification of this drivetrain could bring that number to the 2s. The most likely target of this car is the Porsche Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid, which goes from 0-100 km / h in 3.0 seconds and can be connected for all-electric driving.

In addition to this car being bullied, Mercedes confirmed its intention to start delivering the Project One hypercar to customers this year. AMG also announced its intention to use technologies from F1 cars in its road cars, such as electric turbochargers and battery cell technology. When we will see these technologies officially in the form of a production car is still unknown, but it is something to look forward to in future AMG products.
