Land Rover has several variants of the second-generation Defender in the pipeline, but a convertible is not one of them. Dutch coachbuilder Heritage Customs announced that it will fill this void by giving the two-door version of the off-roader a semi-powered soft top.
Built by the same folks who revived the two-door Range Rover and brought us the unique Ferrari Breadvan Homage, the topless Defender can be configured in a number of different ways, ranging from rugged to luxurious. They all get the same fabric hood, which replaces the part of the roof that sits directly above the front seats and the entire rear part of the greenhouse. It has two-piece rear windows.
At launch, buyers will be able to choose from three trim lines: Côte d’Azur, Solihull Sand and Kokkini Paralia. The first wears blue paint, 22-inch wheels called Space Cowboy that are wrapped in whitewall tires, copper-colored interior trim, leather trim and sports seats for the front passengers. The first pays tribute to the first pre-production Land Rover built, which was given registration number HUE 166, with green paint and white-painted 20-inch wheels. Finally, the third features flat red paint, dark gray exterior trim and 20-inch wheels.
Heritage Customs will make five build slots available in 2022. The price starts at €138,500, which works out to about $156,500, before various taxes come into play. The convertible Defender only exists in sketches at the time of writing, but we look forward to seeing the real thing.
