Discover the infamous Toyota 2JZ-powered E92 BMW M3 of a drifting champion with over 900 horsepower

If you’re familiar with the drift scene, chances are you’ve heard the name James Deane and are familiar with his wild E92 generation BMW M3.

 

The car regularly attends drifting events and has also become a staple of the Goodwood Festival of Speed ​​in recent years. While the stock E92 M3 is known for its naturally aspirated 4.0-liter V8, Deane ditched this engine in favor of a Toyota-sourced 2JZ 3.0-liter straight-six.

This is also not a standard 2JZ. While the engine was originally equipped with a pair of turbochargers, it now has only one large turbocharger and is completely built with a host of new internal parts. It also shakes out a 100 shot of nitrous oxide and pumps out over 900 horsepower as it goes up to 9,000 rpm.

Particularly noteworthy is the nitrous system. While most people associate nitrous oxide with Fast & Furious, where it can be activated by pressing and holding a button, Deane’s M3 automatically deploys the nitrous when it’s over 85 percent throttle and between 3,500 and 8,500 rpm, helping to turbo lag and ensures that the engine and its power remain extremely responsive.

The car’s braking system has also been extensively upgraded and there are now two calipers on each rear corner, one used for the brake pedal and the other solely for the handbrake. The car is also quite light thanks to the use of strong yet flexible carbon-Kevlar body panels.
