Chevy Colorado ZR2 gets Chevy Performance off-road parts

We all know and love how capable the Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 is, but Chevy Performance is making it even better now. Starting today, ZR2 owners can equip their trucks with parts used for racing in the "Best in the Desert" series. Chevy Performance and Hall Racing use a ZR2 equipped with all these parts to compete in that series and as a precursor for scouting the Baja 1000.

In total, consumers may purchase 15 new components, including even better Multimatic DSSV shocks. Those dampers will be the biggest hit for your wallet with a set of four priced at $ 7,336. For this exorbitant price tag these shocks offer a larger travel – 15 percent in the front and 10 percent in the rear. The front shock rod now has a diameter of 18 mm for the fronts and 16 mm for a higher side load. Adjustment of the control valve is adjusted and the casing of the shock absorber is threaded to adjust the ride height.

In order to install these shocks, Chevy requires that you also install the upper arm ball joint with high angle, which costs $ 500. This provides more spring travel on the front suspension and increases cross-articulation by up to 18 percent. Chevy recommends installing a few other parts with the shocks to fully benefit from it. One is a ball bearing with half axles, which provides improved articulation with reduced feedback forces during hard turns. These half shafts will run you $ 3,840. The front and rear shock system is also a recommended add-on. This system adds a nitrogen-charged secondary shock for better movement control. The shock system for the front of the jounce costs $ 1,231, and the back is $ 1,543.

There are lots of other great options such as a leaf spring system with long spring travel. In combination with the spring-loaded shock absorbers, the spring travel is increased by 11 inches. This new suspension system costs $ 3,312. A crossbar girder system offers a structural beam over the entire frame to enable better handling of loads. Chevy Performance has a 1.5-inch lift kit for more openings in the mudguards, which, according to Chevy, increases the possibilities for off-road tires.

There are a few other smaller but still very cool parts that you can view on the Chevy Performance website. Chevy says the kit can be completely à la carte, or you can buy it all as a package – an expensive package, that is. After you have installed everything here, you only have to carry out your own Baja exploration with the required safety equipment. We certainly did not complain that the ZR2 was not tough enough (especially now that the Bison exists), but with this the real Baja runner status is achieved and who does not like that.
