Tesla makes public its parts catalog

Posted on

Unless you change tires, you generally can not repair a Tesla car yourself – not when the brand has made it difficult to get documentation only, let alone parts. However, it is walking in the right direction. Tesla has published its parts catalog, in which all components for cars are explained, ranging from the original Roadster to Model 3. You can even see diagrams that show how everything fits together.

Just do not expect to buy the parts yourself. You should contact Tesla directly as a general rule and some parts are "limited for use by your store." This is more intended for professional mechanics than amateur fat monkeys, and that is not entirely surprising when parts can vary from gigantic body panels to concealed engine components.

To a certain extent, Tesla recognizes a political reality. Several states have entered "right to recovery" accounts, and that is the law of the country in Massachusetts. Although the company had promised in January 2017 to open its repair documents, it might not have much choice anymore. Whatever the reasons, it suggests that you do not have to talk to Tesla or an authorized center every time you need a solution.
