FCA to idle Ontario minivan plant for 8 days, union says

Unifor did not say why the plant would be used during the extra eight days, and neither the trade union nor FCA immediately responded to a request for comment.

FCA was previously closed to adjust inventory in October and January 2018.

Approximately 6,000 employees of the Windsor Assembly Plant are building the Chrysler Pacifica and Dodge Grand Caravan on three shifts per day.

FCA has just informed the Union that the Windsor assembly plant will be discharged on 2 and 3 January and the week of 7 January. Back to top January 14, 2019

Pacifica sales in the United States rose 2.1 percent to 109,386 units in November. The sale of Grand Caravan has increased by 20 percent to 142,233 units.

The sale is less strong in Canada, where the automaker sold 30,592 Grand Caravans, a decrease of 30 percent compared to the same time last year. Pacifica sales increased 4.5 percent to 5,794.

It is a 91-day offer from Pacificas and a 29-day offer from Grand Caravans in the United States as of December 1, according to the Automotive News Data Center. Comparable information about Canada is not available.
