740-hp 1969 Dodge Charger “Scraptona” wins latest Hot Wheels Legends leg

We looked at just three of the cars that qualify for last night’s Hot Wheels Legends Tour stage. And the winning car was not one of them. Fortunately, Hot Wheels gave us some photos and a few details about the winner today. It’s a 1969 Dodge Charger Daytona called “Scraptona”, and it sounds like a monster.

From the outside, Scraptona looks like a tired old NASCAR with a lot of mismatched body panels. But that body has actually been widened to accommodate extra fat tires. It also has a chin spoiler in the front and headlights are tucked into the openings that pop-up units would have had. Inside, the cabin is completely bare except for a roll cage, aluminum bucket seats, metal steering wheel and LCD instrument panel.

The ratty body hides some impressive mechanical bits. In the engine compartment is a Richard Petty Racing NASCAR V8 that produces 740 horsepower. It also apparently revs to 8,300 rpm. It’s hooked up to a manual transmission, and we think we’re spying on a quick-change rear so you can easily swap the final drive ratios. And the wide, low-profile tires we mentioned earlier make us think this loader can be just as good in corners as it is in straight lines.

More Hot Wheels Legends Tour events are coming throughout the year. The winners of each stage compete against each other to become a real Hot Wheels toy car.
