The 2021 Ford Edge is unchanged with one exception. And it’s a pretty big one. The midsize crossover gets a new 12-inch infotainment display as standard on every Edge model. It includes the latest version of the Ford Sync infotainment operating system called Sync 4A.
The large screen is a vertical unit wedged into the Edge’s outdated dashboard. It’s not the most elegant design, but it could have been a lot worse. Its size allows the Edge to display more than one app at a time, such as top navigation with audio information and controls below, or vice versa or two completely different apps.
Sync 4A brings its own extra functionality. The system recognizes natural voice commands, similar to smart home assistants such as Amazon Alexa. Over-the-air updates and cloud-based navigation are also included. And Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are now wireless. The Edge owner’s manual is even loaded into the infotainment.
Aside from these infotainment updates, the Edge is getting the slightest changes. It picks up a few USB ports for the back seat and there are new wheels, colors and interior trim. Pricing and availability have not been announced, but both should come soon.
