Ford introduces Transit Custom Nugget camper van

Europeans love campers and caravans (trailers, Americans). And Ford of Europe once again appeals to a lifestyle that has remained popular in several decades and for several generations. Ford unveiled the 2019 Transit Custom Nugget camper with a new look, new features and a fully habitable interior that can be sold directly through selected dealers.

Ford has been developed with the famous German brand Westfalia and has two sizes of adventure in the Nugget and Nugget Plus. The Nugget is offered with a pop-up or fixed roof, while the Plus comes standard with the larger fixed roof. The Nugget Plus is 14.4 centimeters longer than the Nugget, which makes for a slightly more comfortable living space with a built-in toilet at the back, a folding sink area and a larger cupboard. Both models have enough space to sleep up to four people, two on a double bed that folds out in the roof section and two on a second bed that can be built into the main room.

The rest of the interior has a design that would impress small home specialists. In addition to the sleeping areas, the main cabin has room for a kitchenette, as well as a convertible living and dining room. The kitchen offers a gas stove with double burner, a chrome-nickel-steel sink, a 10.6-liter refrigerator and plenty of storage space. Two 11-liter tanks supply fresh and wastewater and can do double work for an outdoor shower. The cabin relies on an auxiliary heating system, and the floors are made of imitation wood for easy cleaning.

When it's time to eat or just enjoy each other's company (no phones during camping!), The fold-out table can accommodate up to five people. Three can sit on a forward-facing bench, while the two front seats can rotate 180 degrees backwards to watch the rear. The Nuggets also offer a fold-out table with two chairs and a canopy if it is a nice day to eat outside.

Buyers of Nugget have the choice of one engine with two specifications, a 2.0-liter EcoBlue diesel engine with 128 or 168 hp. This is linked to a six-speed manual or an automatic six-speed gearbox.

According to Ford, sales of new motorhomes in Europe have been more than 100,000 units for the first time and have grown significantly in recent years. Responding to the question, the Nugget will first be available in Australia, Belgium, Germany, Italy and Switzerland. Ford has not released the prices for the Nuggets, but interested European buyers can see the new motorhomes arrive at the Brussels Motor Show.
