Brabus unveiled their take on the Mercedes-Benz S-Class last year, but the tuner is back for more, revisiting the even more luxurious Mercedes-Maybach S580. The Brabus 600, as it is called, has a carbon fiber body kit, a turquoise makeover in the cabin and a power boost for the V8 engine.
Starting with the exterior, the limousine has received a carbon fiber treatment on the bumper intake edges, prominent splitter and diffuser trim. The usual light work has been replaced with a dark Shadow Chrome finish, combined with a new set of Shadow Gray 22-inch BRABUS Monoblock M “Platinum Edition” forged wheels that resemble the original design. Finally, the tuner added Barbus Masterpiece badging to the front fenders and D-pillars.
The interior upgrades are less subtle than the dark-themed exterior. A new turquoise-blue leather trim covers most surfaces around the cabin, with a Brabus-specific “Seashell Diamond” quilt and black piping adding texture. The carbon fiber on the center tunnel, dashboard and door inserts is also a Brabus-specific detail that matches the body kit on the outside. The equipment includes everything you would expect from a Maybach, such as the ventilated and heated independent rear seat, the fully digital cockpit and beautiful mood lighting.
As always, Brabus did not limit itself to visual adjustments. Thanks to new software, the twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 engine produces 591 hp (441 kW / 600 hp) and 800 Nm (590 lb-ft) of torque, which is a modest increase compared to the 496 hp (370 kW / 503 PS) and 700 Nm (516 lb-ft) from the standard Mercedes-Maybach S580, bringing it closer to the V12-powered S680 flagship. Power is transferred to all four wheels via a nine-speed automatic transmission.
Thanks to the increased power, the Barbus 600 accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 4.5 seconds, which is 0.3 seconds faster than the standard S580, which corresponds to the time of the S680. Top speed remains electronically limited to 250 km/h (155 mph), as opulence isn’t about numbers. Aside from the larger 22-inch wheels with performance tires, chassis upgrades include a 20mm (0.8-inch) drop in ride height using the Barbus SportXtra module added to the standard height-adjustable air suspension.
Brabus has not announced prices for the tuned Maybach. Since the tuner already offers a more powerful derivative of the Mercedes-Maybach GLS, it’s safe to assume that we’ll see more Brabus-tuned Maybach-branded S-Class models in the future.
