When most people modify a Toyota Hilux, they jack up the suspension, fit it with new off-road tires, and install several other off-road accessories. The South African owner of this Hilux did something different.

This Hilux, made by Fatboy Fab Works, was built for the Simola Hillclimb in the country and as such has little in common with a standard Toyota pickup. For example, under the hood is now the same V12 engine as in a Toyota Century.

Typically, the Century’s engine is good for 276 horsepower and 355 lb-ft (481 Nm) of torque. However, the tuner has added a pair of Garrett GT35 turbochargers, meaning it now delivers 563 horsepower and 715 lb-ft (970 Nm) of torque. Speaking to Cars.co.za, the owner notes that the installation of all-forged engine components means the V12 is actually good for 1,000 horsepower when running on a mixture of 50 percent ethanol and 50 percent gasoline.

It’s not just the engine that makes this Hilux special. It is also equipped with the four-speed automatic transmission of a Toyota Supra, but will soon be equipped with a manual ‘box’. Power is sent solely through the rear wheels, meaning the Hilux is just as good at doing donuts as it is at climbing a hill.

The truck’s enthusiastic owner has also made some visual upgrades to it. For example, it rocks a set of aftermarket wheels and has a unique wrap to promote Fatboy Fab Works.
