The next generation of GM mid-sized pickups is well on its way to being ready, and these new spyshots give us an early look at the new interior in the GMC Canyon.
To our delight, the new Canyon interior is nothing remotely like the current truck. The relationship between the Sierra’s redesigned interior and what we can see in these Canyon spyshots is impossible to ignore. While not an exact replica of, or a shrunken version of, the Canyon’s display hardware resembles the Sierra’s. We see the volume rocker popping out of the top left corner and the entire screen is surrounded by glossy black plastic. The software running is GM’s new Android Automotive-based infotainment that we’ve already sampled in the 2022 Yukon. Just like in that vehicle, we can see that Google Maps is the native navigation system and it has similar shortcuts on the left side of the screen. screen.
Below the screen, the next-generation Canyon is equipped with all climate controls. The model we are looking at here must be a luxury version, because it has heated and cooled seats. Another indication that this model could be a Denali (or other higher trim) is the small piece of wood trim on the door largely shrouded in camouflage. We can’t get it right, but any amount of wood in a medium-sized pickup means luxury.
It’s hard to make out what’s going on with the steering wheel, though we can see what appear to be silver switches flanked by flat black buttons. The instrument panel is also hard to see, but if the tiny glimpse of a “125 miles to empty” readout is any indication, it could very well be an all-digital cluster. However, we will have to wait to fully confirm that thought.
When it comes to the exterior, there’s not much to see under the heavy camouflage. We got a decent look at the grille behind the mesh and the signature of the front LED lighting is also partially visible. We’ll note that there isn’t much of a front bumper on this test truck, making it look like an off-road capable pickup – it’s just not nearly as extreme as the Canyon prototype we spied with a ZR2 last year style suspension.
Big wheels fitted to this tester give more credibility that it may be a Denali. The back may be even more covered than the front, making it even harder to see what GM is hiding.
We still don’t know exactly when GM will unveil its new mid-size pickups, but this prototype seems well into the production process. Look out for something to hit for or before the 2024 model year.
