First reported by Ford Authority and Motor Trend, then confirmed to us by a Ford PR representative, Eluminator’s electric crate motor has sold out. The rep told us the same to Motor Trend: “Demand has exceeded expectations. We are currently out of stock and interested customers can sign up to be notified when they are available to order again.” The rep didn’t say exactly where to sign up, but we would start with the Ford Performance contact page.
It seems that the well-received electric Ford F-100 custom pickup truck shown at SEMA accelerated demand as the engine was announced and even had a full product page months ago. It costs $3,900 and is basically the rear engine of a Ford Mustang Mach-E GT. Power output is 281 horsepower and 317 pound-feet of torque.
If you’re hoping to get your hands on one of these Eluminators when it’s back in stock, there are a few things to keep in mind. Ford does not offer battery packs, battery management or power converters, although it has said it will offer more in the future. So you have to supply your own products from other companies. You’ll probably also need to have some solid manufacturing skills, or the ability to hire someone from them, as the current engine configuration is for transverse applications like you’d find in a front-wheel drive car. So you can’t just make some engine mounts and screw them onto your old transmission or driveshaft. This could explain why the Ford-built F-100 runs on a completely modified chassis. Of course, the transverse layout is also what allowed Ford to pack two engines, one at the front and one at the rear, into the F-100, as there would be no driveshaft and rear differential in the way.
