Renntech has built a special one-to-one W140 chassis Mercedes-Benz S-Class to show the world what it is capable of. Under the hood of this already classic 1992 Mercedes 600 SEL is the M120 V12 with the largest displacement ever built with 7.6 liters that pumps 615 hp (458 kW) only to the rear wheels. For the ignorant, Renntech is a performance engineering firm that was founded in 1989. Since then, it has produced some of the most overbuilt custom Mercedes models ever. At the helm is Hartmut Feyhl, a man with 12 years of work experience at AMG before spending time as technical director of the North American division. He knows how to make a Mercedes even faster than it already was and the S76R is what Renntech calls the ‘perfect W140’.

Under the hood of the S76R is a heavily modified (but still naturally aspirated) version of the 600 SEL’s 6.0-litre V12 that was bored out and expanded to 7.6 litres. It is aided by an ME-1 engine management conversion, installed along with a handcrafted wiring harness and RENNtech ECU tune. The result is a healthy boost from the standard V12’s 402 horsepower (408 hp) and 428 lb-ft (580 Nm) to 615 hp and 952 Nm at the crankshaft.

Renntech didn’t stop there when the original model’s four-speed automatic was swapped out for a 5-speed automatic transmission with an OS Giken limited-slip differential. Renntech says that with these mods, the 4,800 lbs (2,177 kg) German sedan can hit 60 mph (96 kph) in the low range of 5 seconds and a top speed of about 155 mph (250 kph).

To help the experience, Renntech has also added some supporting tweaks to the S76R. They include a custom, handcrafted stainless steel exhaust system with quad mufflers and sport catalytic converters that not only increase power but give the V12 a louder and nastier growl.

The car was fitted with a custom AMG Carbon Ceramic braking system with six-piston calipers on the front axle and four-piston calipers on the rear, while riding on unique Renntech 19 x 9-inch forged aluminum wheels. front and 19 x 10.5″ rear with 235/45 (F) and 285 / 35 (R) Michelin Pilot Sport 4 S tires.

Inside the cabin there is a fully customized interior and trim kit. Above the occupants is an Alcantara headliner with carbon fiber inlays. A leather dashboard sits for everyone and the seats are finished with diamond-stitched leather upholstery. In fact, the rear seats have been completely replaced by a pair of fully adjustable individual rear seats. Renntech has even added a modern sound system with iPhone integration.

While this example is a one-off, Renntech says it will be happy to build your own custom W140 Mercedes S-Class with all of these mods and more, though it didn’t give any details on price.
