Bussink GT R Speedlegend is an extra-open Mercedes-AMG GT R Roadster

The number of homeless (and windshieldless) supercars continues to grow, and now even the aftermarket is starting to make hugely expensive roofless rockets. The specific missile we are referring to here is the Bussink GT R Speedlegend. Who or what is Bussink? Well, Bussink is the last name of Ronald A. Bussink – a product designer who made his money with fairground rides and leisure facilities – and he is the man responsible for the car you are viewing here.

This intriguing device is based on the new Mercedes-AMG GT R Roadster, a model limited to just 750 units worldwide. What you see is actually what you get. Bussink sought technical help from the HWA AG team in Affalterbach to build this extra open version of the GT R Roadster. The “Speedbow” that runs from the hood back to the rear of the car gives the Speedlegend its defining look. Inspired by Formula 1’s protective halo, the car as a whole is intended to recreate the homeless SLR Stirling Moss. The bow contains lights and necessary sensors that may have been removed when the top and windshield went away.

To implement this design, the convertible top has been completely removed and the A-pillars and windows have been shortened. Bussink claims this drops 220 pounds and lowers the car’s center of gravity. Bussink added stylized sipes, body-colored carbon fiber throughout, and even more power than what Mercedes-AMG offers at the factory. It’s an optional item, but you can have Bussink increase the output to 850 horsepower, which is far more than the 577 horses you get in stock.

If you want downforce, Bussink says it has the ability to fit the front of the AMG GT R Pro. Driving around requires the use of a helmet – technically there is a windshield, but it looks too small to be usable. Each car comes with a helmet that is color-matched to the car paint. Owners had the option of customizing the interior with body color accents, decorative stitching or a new carbon fiber steering wheel with LED shift lights. It also comes with a chic Armin Strom watch.

Bussink only built five cars, and they have already spoken for it. No price was provided, but it is certainly very expensive – the car had a suggested retail price of $ 189,750 from Mercedes. With the help of AMG-entwined HWA, we suspect this car’s engineering and performance won’t disappoint. Given the immediate sales success, Bussink says more of these types of cars will hit the road.
