BF Goodrich introduces new off-road windshield wiper blades

If you’re driving off-road in most places (except in the desert, probably) you’ll need your windshield wipers. If you crash through water or mud puddles, your windshield will remain covered in nature. It’s all a little more than what your windshield wipers endure with rain, salt and snow on a daily basis, which is why BF Goodrich just announced a windshield wiper specifically designed for off-road driving.

It’s called the BF Goodrich Off-Road wiper blade, an appropriate name for a very specific product. BF Goodrich says it is available for a number of trucks and SUVs, especially those designed with off-road driving in mind.

BF Goodrich says its off-road windshield wiper is better than regular windshield wipers in a number of ways. First, they are intended to be much more durable than regular wipers. You will notice that the outer rubber shell is inspired by the tire profile of the company’s All-Terrain T / A K02 tire. It’s more resistant to the kind of thing you could throw at it off-road than a typical wiper. The blades are also infused with what BF Goodrich calls “Scrub-X Extreme Weather Performance” technology, and it sounds like the secret sauce (or marketing) that makes these work better than regular wipers. BF Goodrich says it helps repel mud, insects, rain, snow and ice from the blade cover more efficiently than it otherwise would.

Take the BF Goodrich name on these wiper blades with a grain of salt. The site where you buy them describes the wipers as “By Pylon, an official licensee for BF Goodrich tires.” In case you hadn’t heard of Pylon, it’s a company that has been developing and developing wiper blades since 1968. The tire tread pattern on the outside of the wiper is clearly from BF Goodrich. However, we suspect this was a partnership project, not a BF Goodrich exclusive from the start.

If you want a set, it won’t come cheap. They are $ 79.99 for a pair. Even a lot more normal windshield wipers aren’t cheap these days, but this set is up there as one of the most expensive out there. We should test the wipers versus a normal set to see if the premium is worth it or not. Until a test proves otherwise, the wild tread pattern on the outside is still a perfectly valid reason to pick up some if you want vanity from them.
